Underneath the disc, the mint trade mark. At the top, of the ring, the text along the rim "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA), at hte bottom, the year of issue "2006", on both sides, stylised twigs of plants going over the disc.
Reverse: the image of the coat of arms of the Sakhalin Region. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top – «РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ» (THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION), at the bottom – «САХАЛИНСКАЯ ОБЛАСТЬ (SAKHALIN REGION).
Sakhalin District - the only insular subject of Russian Federation. It includes Sakhalin island, Kuryly, Moneron and Tyleniy islands. Sakhalin island's shelf disposes of considerable reserves of oil, now being actively exploited.
